Travel Allowance
A Travel Allowance is a tax free allowance that can be salary
sacrificed within an individual’s pay to compensate for the expenditure on
accommodation, food and incidentals whilst the individual is away from their
usual place of residence for employment purposes for 21 days or less.
A Travel Allowance can only be salary sacrificed within an individual’s
pay if the employer is not covering the costs associated with the business
trip.
This allowance is determined by rates set by the Australian
Tax Office (ATO) each financial year and is set in accordance with the state by
which the individual is travelling to and their salary bracket.
